How to put Canadian health-care innovation into practice

A very interesting read, by Clare Liddy and Erin Keely. Two doctors, finding an innovating solution to improve patient wait times. Claire (a Family Doctor) and Erin (Endocrinologist), came a cross “a large chasm called, patient wait times and both started seeing more and more of their patients swallowed by this abyss.”

With Public grant funding and the support of regional partners – a Champlain Base eConsult service was created.

The message that both Clare and Erin are given us, is that: Successful innovations are built on a foundation of sound evidence and that evidence comes from solid research.

ER Patients: We know how long you have been waiting

Waiting in the ER takes a long time. The read focuses on the fact, that doctors, nurses and other medical staff know about the long waits, but they are asking that we don’t blame them.

It does not depend on them. It is the system they work in.

Sad, but true.

Six Innovations that will shape healthcare in 2018

As everything, healthcare changes all the time. Technology is important and especially in this industry.

Teletherapy: Smartphone apps and chatbots are making waves in the therapy scene.

Blood flow restriction training: The biggest innovation in fitness for 2018 promises big muscle growth results while using as little as 10-20 percent of the weight you would typically use.

Where Health Innovation May Lead in 2018

There will be a more affordable way to deliver care and resources to patients. “It is going to be about how we get directly to them and give them technology to access healthcare themselves.”

Expansion of technology and artificial intelligence designed for the aging population will occur as well.
